Dark Matters | Nakanojo Biennale

Nakanojo Contemporary Art Biennale 12/09 – 13/10/2015 NB2015-poster

Brightness and darkness are not opposites but exist as alternate aspects of light. Light allows us to perceive the physical world around us to varying degrees. In darkness, the absence of light, with limited visual perception, our imagination is awakened to allow us to give meaning to what we cannot see. This is the moment when memories appear to fill the blank spaces.

Forgotten fears, secrets, and shame resurface as a photograph of our own inner landscapes.

Inspired by and taking place within Kaoru Murakami’s ‘Bulb Cities’ installation and developed during a one week residency in and around Shima Onsen town, Dominique created a site-specific performance at Daisan Former Elementary School, Shima Onsen.
